Mich Turner, founder of LITTLE VENICE CAKE
COMPANY released her fourth book at the start of 2011– Masterclass, through Jacqui Small Books. Mich Turner’s first book Spectacular Cakes, won the national
category of Best Dessert Book in
the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in
2006. She quickly followed this with her second book, Fantastic Party Cakes, in 2007, on which she received an accolade
from Gordon Ramsay, who describes her as ‘the Bentley of cake makers’. This was
followed by her third book, Couture Wedding Cakes, published both
here in the UK and the US. In
September of 2006 she was announced as Harpers
Bazaar & CHANEL Entrepreneur of the Year at a glittering ceremony in
central London and in June of 2010, Mich was honoured with
receiving an MBE for her services to
the catering industry.
With a celebrity client list including
Madonna, Pierce Brosnan, Paul McCartney, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Gordon
Ramsay and David Beckham, LITTLE VENICE CAKE COMPANY is the natural choice to
be seen at the most spectacular parties and Mich is often described as ‘Queen of Couture Cakes’.
2008 was a phenomenal year for Mich who, in addition to
running LVCC, started the year by making and presenting Bruce Forsyth with his
80th Birthday cake for the BBC
1’s Happy Birthday Brucie! celebratory programme, which aired to over 10
million. Mich
challenged the Strictly Come Dancing
judges to replicate some of her gorgeous cakes – they failed (!) but enormous
fun was had by all. Mich
has also appeared on BBC’s Ever Wondered,
This Morning, GMTV, Channel 5’s The
Ultimate Celebrity Wedding and BBC
2’s Sweet Baby James with James Martin. In October 2006 she tutored
Ant and Dec for their Saturday Night
Takeaway challenge. More recently she filmed Ready Steady Cook (BBC 2) and
has appeared on Market Kitchen (UKTV)
several times. She was invited to appear on Bake!, Rachel Allen’s show dedicated to the craft, in which she
invited Rachel to her exclusive studio. The series attracted the highest ever rankings for UKTV.
2009 was equally exciting with appearances
on several Channel 4 prime time
series including Heston Blumenthal’s
Feast, where she helped Heston with his Roman feast by creating an
ejaculating cake and also in Kirsty’s
Homemade Home, where she tutored Kirsty in the art of cake decorating and
later joined her at the house’s big reveal. Mich also appeared in the filming
for the Kirsty’s Homemade Home Christmas
special in December 2009.
2010 was another hectic year for Mich in
terms of television, she appeared on Wedding
TV’s Great Cake Bake and was then invited to film her own series with them which was broadcast in 2010 and is being
repeated throughout 2011. Mich has also filmed with the Ace of Cakes team where she introduced them to the British
traditions of baking over afternoon tea at The Goring Hotel. The show was
broadcast on UKTV and in the US too.
In addition to her television and bespoke
work, Mich writes
for British Baker magazine and has contributed to At Home with Antony Worrall Thompson and James Martin Magazine. Mich has
been invited to appear at food festivals around the country and has performed
two in Wales
including the Llangollen Food Festival.
Her demonstrations were so popular, that she decided to launch her own cookery
classes, which are now held at the luxurious Langham Hotel in London. The success of these classes has been
extraordinary, with students coming from as far as Australia
for one of Mich’s
hands on 2-hour classes. Mich also appeared at the BBC Good Food Show in London performing her sell-out master-classes
to huge audiences.
Due to her unrivalled position within the
cake and desserts industry, Mich was
approached by PUDZ to judge their
Amateur Pudding Chef of the Year competition at the London
final – it was a huge success and led to Mich
appearing on Market Kitchen once
again with her selected winner.
Mich has launched her stunning designs in a new range of Little Venice Cake Company Celebration
Cakes in Sainsbury’s last year. The range is first licensed range that Mich has created and
provides the opportunity to sample the luxury of LVCC at a price point all can
afford. LVCC already provides cakes for Harrods,
Harvey Nichols, Waitrose and Tesco. The cakes have been hugely successful
and Mich also designed Christmas cakes and various flavoured celebration cakes
too.
In addition to her range of cakes in
Sainsbury’s, Mich
