PETER GORDON is the
multi-award winning chef/co-owner of The Providores and Tapa Room in London’s Marylebone which
has won an army of admirers and a string of awards including the much coveted
‘Square Meal’ Best New Restaurant award. Peter set up the kitchen of the
ground breaking and wildly successful Sugar
Club, the award winning restaurant which scooped Best Modern British
Restaurant from Time Out and an Eros
award from London Evening Standard in it’s time, and which propelled Peter to
fame with his exciting and daring Fusion Food. It was a style of food he was to
become synonymous with.
Biography
In addition to running his London
restaurant, Peter also has a restaurant in a five star hotel his native New Zealand,
dine by Peter Gordon, and he has set
up a tapas bar in the same hotel Bellota. He is also consultant chef to award
winning changa and muzedechanga restaurants in Istanbul, which feature contemporary fusion
food. Wallpaper* magazine bestowed the title of Best New Restaurant in the
World on müzedechanga at the Wallpaper* Design Awards in 2007.
When not running his hugely successful eateries, Peter spends his time
writing and is author of several books including: Vegetables, Salads (Quadrille) both of which were serialised in The
Sunday Times; The Sugar Club Cookbook, Cook:
At Home with Peter Gordon (both Hodder and Stoughton); and Peter Gordon: A World in My Kitchen (Hodder Moa Beckett). Peter is
also a much respected journalist and has written for numerous publication
including BBC Good Food Magazine, New Zealand House & Garden, Delicious,
Arena, Elle and Food Illustrated. He now has a bi monthly column in the Financial Times.
Peter does a great deal of consultancy work and has enjoyed phenomenal
success with his partnerships with Marks
& Spencer (his chicken wrap became one of their best selling
sandwiches) and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
He has had his own 13 part TV series for the Carlton Food Network, ‘Peter Gordon’s Pacific Food’, a special
programme commissioned for American Food Network, ‘My Country, My Kitchen’ based on his culinary roots, Planet Food series for Discovery, Great Food Live and has appeared on
several of both Nigel Slater’s and Jamie Oliver’s highly successful series.
Most recently, Peter has contributed to Optomen's huge food programme, Food Poker, broadcast end October
2007 on BBC 2. He has also very recently appeared on Market Kitchen on UKTV Food and Channel
5’s Cooking the Books.
Peter also does a great many cookery demonstrations and speeches both here in
the UK and all over the globe including THRIVE – the largest business promotion
event in New Zealand, alongside luminaries such as Helen Clark the NZ Prime
Minister, and Kevin Roberts world head of Saatchi and Saatchi, the annual
Waitangi Day Dinner at the Dorchester Hotel, World Gourmet Festival, the annual
‘Chef of the Year’ competition for National Magazine’s Good Housekeeping and
various prestigious food festivals in the UK.
He has taught at a number of celebrated cookery schools including Leiths
and Ballymaloe and is dedicated to a number of charities including Leuka and
the Childrens Fire and Burns Trust.
Peter has just been bestowed with the honour of ONZM (Officer of the NZ order of merit) in the New Years Honours list in
New Zealand
for services to Food.
