Biography

Dr Darren McKeown is a cosmetic doctor who practices between London's Harley Street and his home city of Glasgow.

Long before entering medical school Dr Darren knew he wanted to be a cosmetic specialist. He went to Glasgow medical school aged just 17 and, as a student, spent all of his spare time in the plastic surgery department where he also had a part time job assisting one of the surgeons with her private practice. He spent his two summer elective terms with plastic surgeons in America, learning the basic principles of cosmetic enhancement from the some of the best in the world.

After graduating Dr Darren spent five years working within the National Health Service working up to the level of specialist registrar in plastic surgery and becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. Throughout that time he also developed a private non-surgical cosmetic practice, specialising in minimally invasive procedures to help men and women maintain their appearance as they get older. As his non-surgical practice grew from strength to strength, Dr Darren now practices privately full time in non-surgical cosmetic medicine including procedures such as botulinum toxin injections, facial fillers and volumising injections as well as chemical peels.

Dr Darren has long shown an aptitude for clinical research and published his first research paper in a peer reviewed medical journal at the age of just 23, which also won him a prize at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. He has since published a number of papers on subjects ranging from lung cancer to breast reconstruction and his work has been presented at national and international conferences.

In his private practice Dr Darren eschews the vagaries of fashion and sticks to using techniques which have been tried and tested and are known to be safe and effective, rather than the latest fad or gimmick. As such, he is often invited by the media to comment on current issues in cosmetic medicine and occasionally writes for the Daily Telegraph health pages on current cosmetic issues.

Dr Darren has his own range of anti-ageing skin care products, Naked Truth by Dr Darren McKeown, which are available nationally through high street retailer, Superdrug. His products make use of the most scientifically proven active ingredients available, but in keeping with his clinical practice, they refuse to make overstated claims which cannot be substantiated with evidence, hence the name, Naked Truth.
