Not many GPs
combine a committed medical practice with radio and television broadcasts and
regular medical columns in the press, but Dr Rob Hicks does just that.
With special
interests in women's, men's and children's health, sexual health, complementary
therapies and health promotion, Rob offers wide-ranging advice that comes from
a long training and sound experience.
His medical
background brought him the role of medical advisor to the successful BBC
television drama series Doctors, as well as writing for general practice
professional publications. As a freelance presenter he has presented live radio
and webcast shows, and recorded video and CD-Rom programmes.
His medical advice
has reached the wider public in regular columns for Now magazine, You Are What
You Eat magazine and C4's
Teletext service, and in his three books, Beat Your Allergies - 52 ways to manage and control allergy problems, Control Your Blood Pressure, both
published in 2005 and Old Fashioned
Remedies from Arsenic and Gin published in Jan 2010.
Rob is now one of
the resident doctors on BBC Radio 5
Live’s Health Programme.
Biography
Rob Hicks
qualified at St. Mary's Hospital, London
in 1989 and then did a variety of hospital medical jobs before entering general
practice in 1992.
He now works part
time in general practice and as a clinical assistant in sexual health
medicine. His special interests are women's, men's and children's health,
complementary therapies and health promotion.
He is an
experienced radio and television broadcaster and is currently the resident
doctor on Talk Sport radio and was also a regular contributor to Classic
FM radio. He was the resident TV doctor on Taste Today and had a
regular live slot on the Wellbeing television channel. He has guested on
many programmes including This Morning, ITV News, GMTV News, Sky News
and BBC News 24. More recently, Rob has contributed to Ancient Discoveries for The History
Channel.
He contributes
regularly to Healthy, Healthspan, Men’s Fitness, Prima Baby and Gurgle.com
and has also contributed to numerous other publications including the Express,
Mirror and Metro newspapers, Top Sante, Woman, Zest, GQ Active, B
Magazine, More and New Woman.
An editor and prolific contributor to the BBC online health sites, he is
also the medical adviser to the successful BBC television drama series Doctors.
As a celebrity
doctor Rob is a popular and entertaining public speaker who gives talks to
consumer, professional and corporate audiences. An experienced presenter, he
has fronted a number of corporate videos and been the spokesperson for many
successful health campaigns. He is a medical adviser and communications
consultant for a variety of organisations and is a highly respected media and
communications trainer.
Rob is passionate about music and is a
singer/songwriter and keyboard player in a pop/rock band. He also loves driving
and writing about cars.
